What is Digital Roots?
The digital world moves fast, and keeping up can feel overwhelming. Digital Roots is a brand-new, welcoming, and completely free community programme designed specifically for women in South Tyneside.
Led by a local professional with over 25 years of experience in the digital sector — and firsthand experience of juggling family and work in South Tyneside.
These sessions are about making technology work for you. We aren’t here to teach complex coding; we are here to share practical, everyday digital skills that save you time, reduce your bills, and boost your confidence.
Whether you want to join a structured group session, or just drop-in for a quick cup of tea and some digital help, we are here to support you!
What Will We Cover?
When you register your interest, you can let us know which of these topics would be most helpful to you:
Looking for Work: Support finding roles and opportunities, or utilise free AI tools to quickly write a brilliant cover letter and tailor your CV to perfectly match local job descriptions.
Starting A Business: We can help with the digital skills and software to enable you to be a lean startup, with little cost to begin.
Life & Budget Management: Build your confidence in safely navigating local government websites, welfare portals, and online services to access the support you are entitled to.
Digital Drop-In Sessions: Struggling to get online? Lost an important password? Drop in, and we’ll help you sort it out.
Removing the Barriers
We know that attending in-person can have challenges, which is why we are committed to making Digital Roots as accessible as possible:
Travel: We can support with public transport travel costs, enabling you to attend the sessions.
Connectivity: We have a limited number of free 12-month data SIM cards, available for those who need help getting online, at home.
Refreshments: Free drinks and a welcoming space are always guaranteed.

Get Kraken CIC
Get Kraken aims to reduce the digital divide in the region, by delivering digital skills in the form of webinars, workshops and 1-2-1 support. We are a local Databank, providing free access to the Internet for those in income-deprived areas.
